Tilt-shift Photography
Tilt-shift (wiki) photography “refers to tilting the lens relative to the image plane and using a large aperture to achieve a very shallow depth of field”. The result is turning real life scenes into what appear to be Lilliputian dioramas. It’s a very cool effect. Keith Loutit has moved the technique to video. Using the tilt-shift along with time-lapse, it really gives the sense of watching toys interact. I’ve embedded a few below, but they really deserve to be viewed in full size.
This one of a Monster Truck Rally/Demo Derby has to be favorite. Gizmodo has made it beautifully large.
This one, of Sydney Harbor, is appropriately titled “Bathtub”. Again, Gizmodo does it better justice.
