Using photos of oft-snapped subjects (like Notre Dame) scraped from around the Web, Photosynth creates breathtaking multidimensional spaces with zoom and navigation features that outstrip all expectation.
It takes pictures taken by regular people all over the world and arranges them spatially to reconstruct the subject of the photos.

Yesterday at The Wall Street Journal’s “D: All Things Digital” Steve Jobs and Bill Gates took the stage together for an interview. For all the geeks out there, this is a big deal. Kind of ironic for me because of my recent purchase. The link will take to the videos of the event. There’s seven parts, but you can just catch the highlights.
Google pushed out street level photos available through their maps. Pretty cool if you plan to visit a city you’ve never been to. Or to forge vacation pictures of a city you never went to.
Yesterday Microsoft unveiled Surface, a touch interface based table-like display for multimedia interaction. A pretty neat concept. I guess its MS’s response to multitouch. They tout lots of usefulness, but at $10k a piece and not much use besides eye candy, I don’t think I be putting my feet up on one anytime soon.

After much deliberation, I made the switch to Apple this week. That’s one of the reasons I’ve been behind, I had to play with my toy. I saw the future that is Windows Vista and it looked bleak. Though, I’m not a total convert, and no platform is definitively better than any than other. You can very easily run Windows on any new Mac, and I am doing so right now.
